a reiki master's morning routine 2.0

A Reiki Master’s Morning Routine is one of my top 3 most popular blog posts to date. But the truth is, a lot has changed since 2019. I bought my first house, deleted my Instagram and at this point in time I no longer offer 1:1 work. It’s hardly a  surprise that my morning rituals reflect this transformation. As an empath and projector in human design, I crave a nurturing and supportive a.m. routine that honors my gentle energy and need for flow.

While you may benefit from using my morning rituals as a reference point, feel into what kind of structure might best support you. Maybe you’re more inclined to practice intermittent fasting, perhaps you enjoy taking your dog for a stroll in the early hours. I encourage you to follow the tug of your intuition. A morning routine is not a one-size-fits-all situation and what a beautiful thing that is!

I recommend building a morning ritual that honors every aspect of your being: mind, body, emotions and spirit. I will break this down for you using my own routine as an example. When practiced with mindfulness and intention, your morning rituals can set the tone for a magical, meaningful day that will support you in creating the life of your dreams.

Dream recall + grounding

Immediately upon waking to the gentle rays of my natural light alarm clock, I write down my dreams in the journal that lives beside my bed. I hold off on interpreting them until later in the a.m., but it is imperative that I capture all of this precious subconscious material while it’s still fresh in my head. I find this practice greatly increases my dream recall. Dream interpretation is a big priority to me because I believe that many of our dreams hold important and insightful messages.

I do not look at my phone until the late afternoon unless I receive a call or text. I have very strong energetic boundaries around phone use because as a sensitive soul I am deeply affected by other people’s energy. I feel better when I approach technology intentionally and remain centered within my own energetic field.

Next, I sit on the edge of my bed with my soles flat against the floor. I visualize roots sprouting from the soles of my feet, growing longer and longer, delving deeper and deeper into the ground, until I’m anchored into the Earth. This energetic exercise allows me to feel grounded and embodied and keeps my root chakra healthy and vibrant.

I also visualize my aura as a bright, pink bubble extending 3 feet in every direction. I picture my aura effortlessly radiating the energy of my love light and I Am presence. I pray that today be a day of Heaven on Earth for me and everyone I come in contact with. This helps me attune to the frequency of 5-D and enhances my ability to stay heart-centered.

Get ready + flower power

Once my visualization exercises are compete, it’s time to get ready. I slip into my outfit, put on facial oil and begin my dental hygiene routine. I’ve recently started this protocol to remineralize my teeth which involves: 1. tongue scraping 2. oil pulling 3. brushing with natural toothpaste or activated charcoal. It’s been nearly a month so far and my teeth already feel healthier and appear whiter. Next, I’ll put on makeup and dab my lips with paw paw ointment. If I’m feeling extra fancy I’ll also spray my face with luxurious scented rose water.

Then, I take 4 drops of flower essence. Currently I’m using Pilar Lesko’s Energetic Sovereignty blend which contains white yarrow, red chestnut, mountain pennyroyal and other sacred flowers. The essence I’m taking helps me cultivate the strength to follow my inner guidance and free my system from psychic absorption and limiting influences. I highly recommend the subtle medicine of flower essences for sensitives- you can read more about how they work here.

Wellness potion + morning pages

Each morning I brew a delicious decaf espresso or tea latte with frothed oat milk, a dash of pumpkin pie spice and this immune-boosting adaptogen mix. It certainly adds an earthy umami note, but it’s well worth it for the abundance of health benefits including: *increased energy *mental focus *reduced stress + anxiety *enhanced athletic performance *heart, liver, digestive health support *decreased inflammation. This wellness potion is a non-negotiable for me and I always infuse it with a touch of reiki.

Velvety latte in hand, I begin my morning pages. While previously I strictly adhered to Julia Cameron’s 3 page minimum, my practice has evolved and now I find myself averaging about two pages. You can find my exact high-vibe journaling template here. I created it myself and it’s very potent and intuitive, complete with  astrological transits, positive affirmations, gratitude, dream interpretation and more!

Journaling is a tool that gives me more clarity than any other self-care practice and it’s essential for my mental health. It allows me to clear out all the thoughts and feelings that are swirling around in my head and anchors them down so that they have somewhere to go. I see it as the emotional equivalent of taking out the trash. In fact, I believe that journaling is such a powerful portal for inner transformation that I couldn’t resist incorporating it into my shadow work e-book.

Breakfast

It’s time to prepare a breakfast of champions! For me, breakfast typically looks like: baked brownie oatmeal, a sourdough egg sandwich, yogurt with granola and raspberries or an acai berry bowl or a chocolate protein shake. I like to mix things up 🙂

One task

After breakfast I tackle 1 item on my to-do list. Sometimes this looks like writing a blog post, scheduling pins on Tailwind or researching a topic that sparks my curiosity. Generally I work on a task that is high-priority and really moves the needle for my business. But I always check in with how I’m feeling and listen to what I need in the moment. Sometimes I’ll read a motivational or daily meditation book. For example, most mornings lately I’ve been reading A Course in Miracles. And if I’m craving rest, I honor that.

Let’s get physical

Now that my food has digested and I’m firing on all cylinders, I head over to my home gym for a sweat session. These days that looks like hopping on the Peloton for a cardio-heavy endorphin rush. But I also like to alternate with yoga, weights, pilates, kickboxing and barre to keep things fresh and fun. Often I’ll refer to the sign the moon is in to inspire my choice- a trick I learned from Body Astrologer Claire Gallagher. For example, moon in Cancer is great for kickboxing whereas when the moon is in Taurus, weight-lifting is favored. I typically work out 4 days a week and I always look forward to a delicious post-stretch.

The spiritual self

Post-workout is my favorite time to meditate. I will smoke cleanse using palo santo, mugwort or cedar or opt for selenite or auric spray. Then I will choose crystals to meditate with based on my intuition and intention. For example, celestite for inner peace or shungite for protection. I prop myself up on a cushion or blocks and arrange the crystals in front of and around me. Sometimes I listen to music or binaural beats or a guided meditation. I really enjoy cocooning myself in a blanket during this practice.

After meditating I begin running energy via self reiki. Even if you’re not attuned to reiki, you can still do this. Here’s a video that will teach you how. Reiki helps keep my vibration high, my health vibrant and my emotions balanced.

When building your expansive morning routine, choose rituals that you enjoy that help you feel aligned and centered. Keep in mind that your morning routine may evolve and shift with the seasons of your life. My mornings don’t look like this all the time and that’s okay. Sometimes getting out of bed and putting on clothes is enough. Instead of striving for perfection, make it easy, enticing and convenient to practice self care so that it feels like a gift.
