The Power of Prayer

A Simple Yet Profound Spiritual Practice

Prayer is a powerful and easy daily ritual you can implement to strengthen your relationship to (non-dogmatic) God. It is also the most direct way to build an intimate, experiential relationship because you’re going straight to the Source. Speaking with God is a simple spiritual practice that you can do anywhere and at any time.

There is really no right or wrong way to pray. And nothing is too small or inconsequential. You can talk to God in ordinary moments about what you’re going through, the challenges you’re facing and ask for help with whatever it is you might be struggling with.

For example, you might pray for…

  • guidance or clarity- help with a decision
  • healing for a physical ailment
  • resolution of relationship problems or interpersonal conflict
  • fortitude to overcome addiction
  • help cultivating a certain inner quality i.e. optimism, compassion, resilience
  • support in achieving career goals
  • the strength to get through a tough day
  • assistance with financial challenges
  • the integration and release of heavy emotions

You don’t have to wait for a moment of weakness or an emotional storm in your life to start praying. Everyone is different, but I like to talk to God the same way I would to a close friend, or confidante that I trust completely. I really pour out all of my feelings and speak authentically. Sometimes this is accompanied by an outpouring of tears which is incredibly cathartic because it feels like a rebirth to be emotionally open in this way.

My Transformative Experience with Prayer

I became reacquainted with the power of prayer at a time in my life when it seemed like there was no solution in sight. I was at a point of surrender and had lost hope. Prayer was a way for me to vulnerably express what was in my heart and give the problem over to God when I felt as though I had been brought to my knees. It was a profound relief to freely and honestly divulge how I was feeling and ask for support, especially because I felt the weight of this burden I had been carrying finally tumble loose. I was lighter somehow, no longer weighed down by the pressure of going it alone.

I began to have faith that no matter what happened, I could get through it. I saw my situation with fresh eyes, from a new perspective and was able to release a flurry of the stress, anxiety and emotional pain that I had been holding onto for months. I was overcome with a newfound strength and trust that no matter what happened, it was ultimately for my highest good. I felt held and protected. I started to believe and realize through the lens of my own experiences, that prayer could work miracles. At the very least, it allowed me to transform the way I viewed personal obstacles, painful situations and most of all, my attitude towards them.

You are Divinely Supported

Prayer has become one of my most valued spiritual practices. I turn to it every day to share my hopes and dreams, concerns and struggles, to express thanks, ask for help and guidance and merge with my higher self. Prayer allows me to feel divinely supported and rooted in what matters. I pray daily to be of service. I ask how I can be of service to God, my family and humanity for the highest good of all. I pray to live from my heart, to treat others with empathy and compassion and to see the silver lining or lesson in every circumstances.

Prayer is a wonderfully supportive avenue when you’re feeling lost, stuck or don’t see a way through. It’s okay to be messy, raw and vulnerable. Prayer is a sacred, intimate container. If you speak, God will listen (and answer). Prayer is a spiritual offering, an act of devotion that radiates from your heart.

When done sincerely, it will allow you to find your center and come into deeper alignment. Not only is prayer helpful for seeking guidance, you can also use it to express gratitude, giving thanks for all of the blessings that surround you. Ultimately, prayer opens up the lines of communication so that you can develop and deepen your relationship with God.
